Historical notes
- Widely regarded as Messi's flagship rookie card. He was not in the original print run; Panini added him mid-season as a 'Nueva Ficha' update card.
- Numbered 71BIS so the new card slotted into the existing Barcelona team run (…70 Luis García, 71 Saviola, 71BIS Messi, 72 Larsson) without renumbering the set.
- The identical card appears slabbed as both #71 and #71BIS by grading companies; PSA labels the set as '2005 Panini La Liga Mega Cracks'.
- Early card backs are documented with an uncorrected name error ('Lionel Andrés Messi' misprinted), per the Trading Card Database.
- Collector literature also documents Barça Campeón/Campió celebration cards (#35, #62, #89) from this season in Spanish and Catalan language variants; those entries will be added here pending verification.
